Custom Bathroom Remodel in Crestwood, Washington, D.C.

Custom bathroom remodel in Crestwood, Washington, D.C. by H&C Contractors Inc. On the top floor of this Northwest DC home, under sloped ceilings and a tall window with a green view, we built a spa-style primary bathroom with a walk-in shower, a freestanding tub and a floating double vanity.

Walk-in shower built under the roofline

The walk-in shower sits in an alcove under the eaves, open to the room with no glass door. A ceiling-mounted rain shower head in a bronze finish hangs where the ceiling is highest, with a handheld shower and a square shower valve on the side wall. A floating black bench with LED lighting underneath runs the length of the back wall, above a linear drain.

Large-format tile installation: white marble-look walls and floors

Large-format white marble-look tile with gray veining covers the shower walls and floor and continues across the whole bathroom floor. A vertical LED strip set into the tile corner and a lit recessed niche add soft light inside the shower, and the black bench in a dark marble-look finish ties in with the vanity.

Floating double vanity with vessel sinks

In its own alcove, a floating double vanity in black marble-look slab holds two white vessel sinks under wall-mounted bronze faucets, with an open shelf below that is lit from underneath. Bronze-framed mirrors, ribbed glass wall sconces and a marble-look backsplash make the vanity wall the focal point of this Crestwood bathroom.

Freestanding tub, towel warmer and natural light

A freestanding tub with a floor-mounted filler sits under the tall black-framed window, and a bronze ladder-style towel warmer hangs beside the shower. A skylight and recessed ceiling lights keep the room bright by day and at night.

Plumbing, electrical and permits in Washington, DC

A top-floor bathroom like this one takes careful planning: new supply and drain lines for the shower, tub and two sinks, waterproofing for an open walk-in shower, and electrical work for the LED strips, sconces, recessed lights, towel warmer and exhaust fan. Bathroom remodels in DC that add plumbing or electrical work typically need permits from the DC Department of Buildings; we prepare the drawings and plans, apply for the permits and schedule the inspections.
