Modern Bathroom Renovation on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.
Modern bathroom renovation on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. by H&C Contractors Inc. In this Capitol Hill home we created a bright, hotel-style bathroom: a brushed gold freestanding tub on a lit platform, a walk-in shower, a floating double vanity with integrated sinks and LED lighting on every wall.
Large-format marble-look tile with brushed brass trim
Large-format white marble-look tile with soft gold veining covers the floor and walls, and a bolder, dark-veined marble-look tile marks the shower wall and the wall behind the vanity. Slim brushed brass trim finishes the tile edges, the window reveal and the niches, the kind of detail that makes a full bathroom remodel in DC feel custom.
Walk-in shower with a lit niche and a linear drain
The walk-in shower is open on one side, with a single glass panel held by a brushed brass support bar. Inside are a wall-mounted brushed brass rain shower head, a handheld shower and matching controls, a long niche lit with LED and edged in brass, and a linear drain set into the floor tile, so the shower floor flows into the rest of the bathroom.
Gold freestanding tub on a lit platform
The freestanding tub, finished in brushed gold, sits on a raised tile platform under a window with white plantation shutters, with a floor-mounted brass tub filler and handheld beside it. An LED strip under the edge of the platform makes the step easy to see at night.
Floating double vanity with integrated sinks
The floating double vanity has fluted wood fronts and a marble-look top with two integrated sinks made from the same material, under wall-mounted brushed brass faucets with knurled handles. A round backlit mirror on the feature wall, a lit niche over the wall-hung toilet and a brushed brass towel warmer complete the room.
LED lighting, electrical and plumbing work
Lighting does a lot in this Capitol Hill bathroom: an LED cove around the ceiling, LED strips under the tub platform and the vanity, lit niches, a vertical LED line in the shower and the backlit mirror. The electrical work covers new circuits for the lighting, the mirror and the towel warmer, GFCI protection and an exhaust fan. On the plumbing side, the wall-hung toilet needs an in-wall tank and frame, and the walk-in shower needs a waterproofed floor sloped to the linear drain.
Plans and permits for a bathroom renovation in DC
Every bathroom renovation in Washington, DC starts with measurements, drawings and a plan for the layout and finishes. Remodels that move plumbing or add electrical work typically need permits from the DC Department of Buildings, and Capitol Hill is a historic district, so exterior changes can need extra review. We prepare the plans, apply for the permits and schedule the inspections.
