Modern Kitchen Remodel in Foxhall, Washington, D.C.
Modern kitchen remodel in Foxhall, Washington, D.C. by H&C Contractors Inc. Under tall ceilings, we built a bright, open kitchen that mixes white cabinetry with warm white oak, centered on a long quartz island with seating for five and a pair of black lantern pendants.
Custom kitchen cabinets in white oak and white
Light white oak base cabinets with wide drawers and long brass pulls run along the cooking wall and wrap the island. Above them, white flat-panel cabinets climb toward the ceiling, and a full wall of white paneled cabinets hides the refrigerator, the freezer and the pantry, with stacked wall ovens set into the same wall.
Quartz island, countertops and a full-height backsplash
White quartz with soft gray veining covers the island and the perimeter counters and runs up the wall as a full-height backsplash. The same quartz wraps the face of the hood cabinet, and an LED strip under it lights the cooktop.
Workstation sink and induction cooktop
The island holds a workstation sink with a built-in cutting board, a colander and a drying rack, under a matte black pull-down faucet. Across from it, a flush induction cooktop keeps the counter clean and easy to wipe down, with ventilation hidden in the cabinetry above.
Lantern pendants and recessed lighting
Two black and brass lantern pendants hang over the island, and recessed lights are spaced across the ceiling so the prep areas and the pantry wall are evenly lit day and night.
Electrical, plumbing and permits in Washington, DC
An induction cooktop and wall ovens need dedicated 240-volt circuits, the island sink needs new supply and drain lines, and paneled refrigeration needs exact cabinet openings. Kitchen remodels in DC that move plumbing or add electrical work typically need permits from the DC Department of Buildings. We prepare the drawings and plans, apply for the permits and schedule the inspections.
