Modern kitchen remodel in the Palisades, Washington, D.C. by H&C Contractors Inc. In this Northwest DC home we built an open, light-filled kitchen around a waterfall quartz island, with flat-panel cabinets, a wall of wood-grain tall cabinets with double wall ovens, and a tray ceiling with recessed lighting.
Waterfall quartz island and countertops
The center island is wrapped in white quartz with bold gray veining that runs over the top and down both ends to the floor. The waterfall edges are mitered so the pattern flows around the corners, and the island holds deep drawers on the cooking side. Quartz continues along the perimeter countertops and up the wall as a full-height backsplash.
Custom kitchen cabinets: flat-panel and wood-grain
Light flat-panel cabinets with slim bar pulls run along the cooktop wall, and a quartz-clad range hood sits between the upper cabinets. Across the room, floor-to-ceiling wood-grain cabinets frame two stainless steel wall ovens and a built-in side-by-side refrigerator, giving this Palisades kitchen plenty of storage without crowding the room.
Gas cooktop, double wall ovens and built-in refrigeration
A gas cooktop under the hood, two wall ovens set at a comfortable height and a built-in refrigerator flush with the cabinetry make the kitchen work for everyday cooking and for entertaining. Built-in appliances need exact cabinet openings, dedicated electrical circuits and a gas line, all planned before the cabinets are ordered.
Tray ceiling, recessed lighting and porcelain floors
A two-step tray ceiling over the island holds a grid of recessed lights, with more recessed lights over the perimeter counters, so every work surface is well lit. Large-format porcelain floor tile with a soft linear pattern runs through the kitchen and into the hallway.
