From an empty room to a full bathroom renovation in DC

Every full bathroom renovation in Washington, DC starts with plans and drawings. Here we laid out the tub platform, the walk-in shower and the double vanity, framed the platform and the recessed niches, and ran new plumbing for the tub, the shower and two sinks. Moisture-resistant drywall went up on the walls and ceiling, and a yellow uncoupling membrane went down over the subfloor to protect the large floor tiles from cracking.

Bathroom tile installation: stone-look tile and fluted accent walls

Large-format stone-look tile covers the floor, the walls and the shower, with ribbed 3D tile on the walls behind the tub and the vanity. The recessed niches above the tub and in the shower are lined with brushed gold chevron tile, a small detail that makes this Georgetown bathroom feel custom.

A freestanding tub on a lit platform

The oval freestanding tub sits on a raised, tiled platform with a brushed brass spout set into the wall. An LED strip runs under the edge of the platform, and hidden LED lighting washes down both sides of the fluted wall, so the tub glows in the evening.

Walk-in shower with brushed brass fixtures

The walk-in shower has a brushed brass rain shower head, a handheld shower and a matching shower valve, a lit niche and a linear drain set into the large-format floor tile, behind a single glass panel. It is a clean, low-maintenance design that works in bathrooms of any size in DC.

Floating double vanity and backlit LED mirrors

A floating double vanity with fluted wood-look fronts holds two vessel sinks under wall-mounted brushed brass faucets, with an open shelf in the middle and a marble-look countertop. Two arched, backlit LED mirrors with touch controls hang on the ribbed tile wall, and LED strips under the vanity light the floor.

LED lighting, electrical work and permits in Washington, DC

Layered lighting is what makes this bathroom: recessed ceiling lights, LED strips under the tub platform and the vanity, LED washes beside the accent wall, lit niches and backlit mirrors, so the room can go from bright to soft. Electrical work for a bathroom like this in DC includes new lighting circuits, power for the mirrors and GFCI-protected outlets. Remodels in the District that add plumbing or electrical work typically need permits from the DC Department of Buildings; we prepare the drawings, apply for the permits and schedule the inspections.
